Greetings!

My name is Scott Laing and I’m currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University at Buffalo School of Management. I recently earned my PhD in Finance with my dissertation titled “Three Essays on the Unintended Consequences of ESG Policy and Job Quality in Asset Pricing”. This 2024/2025 academic year I will be the primary instructor for Applied Economics (MGE 302) and Financial Modeling (MGF 637). My research interests lie within Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and Sustainability, pushing the intersection of environmental policy decisions with corporate finance and asset pricing.

During my graduate studies I’ve taught numerous sections of Financial Modeling, a crash course on using R/RStudio in financial applications. Further, I’ve taught multiple sections of Advanced Corporate Finance (MGF 405) and Investment Management (MGF 402) at the University at Buffalo, as well as Microeconomics at both Buffalo State University and Erie County Community College. I’ve also led Data Modeling workshops, Dashboard seminars, and Fintech presentations at the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership.

I am a member of the Financial Management Association (FMA), American Financial Association (AFA), and European Financial Association (EFA) - of which I am proud to have been a member of the first ever PhD Travel Grant for their Barcelona Conference.
